Vacuum Freeze Drying
Priority Restoration has the larger of only 2 freeze dry chambers in Canada. Our chamber is able to process up to 250 cubic feet of wet materials per batch and is situated in a PIPEDA secure department with a 3000 cu. ft. freezer within our 50 000 sq. ft. warehouse facility.
Freeze-drying uses a process known as sublimation which is taking water from a frozen solid state to a gaseous state without going through a liquid state; the liquid state is where damage occurs. Upon the discovery of water damage to documents or books, film, and many other types of media, steps should be taken to have the material frozen, preferably within 6-8 hours. This eliminates any further degradation or mold growth to the paper product, plus this allows an estimate to be provided for decisions to be made relating to value and coverage. Vacuum Freeze Drying is the most cost effective method for handling and drying large volumes of wet documents. It also eliminates the need for constant manipulation and as such provides for better procedures to avoid any breaches of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. |
